Aaliyah was an American singer, dancer, actor and model. At 15 Aaliyah was signed up and created the album, Age aint Nothing but a Number, which went Platinum in months and eventually double platinum in the US.
Throughout her short lived career Aaliyah was nominated for five Grammy Awards, won three MOBO Awards, three American Music Awards and five World Music Awards.
Aaliyah went on to create another two studio albums, One in a Million, and Aaliyah. Aaliyah, reached number one in the US Billboard 200.

Aaliyah was shot in the spotlight with help from R. Kelly who it was thought she married aged 15 whilst R. Kelly was 27. Her age was falsely put as 18 on the marriage licence and the marriage was later annulled.
As well as singing Aaliyah started acting and her film debut was in the 2000 film, Romeo Must Die, which was a box office success. She also appeared in the film, The Queen of the Damned, and was due to star in movies including The Matrix sequels and Honey before her death.
On August 25th 2001, Aaliyah along with her entourage took a flight to return to the US after finishing the filming for the, Rock the Boat, video. However the plane crashed shortly after takeoff and all the eight passengers and the pilot were killed.
An investigation proved that the pilot was not approved to fly that particular plane, had falsely obtained his FAA license and traces of cocaine and alcohol was found in his blood. The gross weight of the plane was also too heavy with too much luggage and two of the passengers weighed around 300 pounds.
