Avril Lavigne was first signed at the age of 16, and released her first album, Let Go, in 2002. It was very successful reaching number two in the United States and number one in Australia, Canada, and the United Kingdom. It became the best-selling album of the year for a female artist and led her to being nominated for eight Grammy Awards.
Avril's success has continued as she released her third album, The Best Damn Thing, in 2007 which has sold around 5 million copies worldwide.
Avril released a second album in 2004, Under My Skin, which was as successful reaching number one in the U.K., and U.S. album charts as well as in another 11 countries.

Avril started seeing Canadian singer Deryck Whibley, lead singer and guitarist of Sum 41, back in 2004. They got engaged in 2005 and went on to marry in 2006.
