Bob Marley was a Jamaican singer, songwriter, guitarist and activist. He was also the lead singer for the reggae groups, The Wailers (1964-1974) and Bob Marley & the Wailers (1974-1981).
In 1977 Bob Marley was found to have a malignant melanoma but Marley refused amputation due to his Rastafarian beliefs. Bob Marley died at hospital in Miami, Florida on May 11th 1981.
Bob Marley's compilation album, Legend, was released three years after his death and is the best-selling reggae album ever, being certified 10 times Platinum.

Bob Marley had 13 children, three with his wife Rita, two adopted from Rita's previous relationships and the other eight from separate women.
Martin Scorsese announced he is going to create a documentary movie on Bob Marley and is set for release in 2010 on what would have been his 65th birthday.
