Bon Jovi

Date of Birth:

Place of Birth: New Jersey (US)

About:

Bon Jovi are an American rock and roll group who have gained large-scale success since the 1980?s. They have sold more than 100,000,000 albums over the world.

Their first album, ?Bon Jovi?, released in January 1984 went gold in the US. This saw them opening for the likes of ZZ Top.

Jon Bon Jovi was in many groups before landing a spot on a local radio to perform one of his songs. He performed Runaway which became a huge hit in the summer of 1983. By this time Jon needed a group, he gave an old school friend a call, David Bryan, he then introduced Alec John Such and Tico Torres. Before Alec John Such convinced the rest of the group to give Richie Sambora a try, there were several guitarists, but none were as good as Richie.

Their first album, ?Bon Jovi?, released in January 1984 went gold in the US. This saw them opening for the likes of ZZ Top.

7800 Fahrenheit flowed a year later as their second album. The response however was poor. Kerrang magazine, who were very positive about the first album, called it ?a pale imitation of the Bon Jovi we have got to know and learned to love?. John Bon Jovi later admitted it should have been a better record.

Their third album Slippery When Wet shot them to stardom. Singles from this album included Livin? On A Prayer, Wanted Dead or Alive and You Give Love A Bad Name. They proved they were not a one hit wonder when they followed with New Jersey. Bad Medicine and Lay Your Hands on Me are still huge hits among fans worldwide. They recorded this album almost straight after their tour for Slippery When Wet. This nearly led the group to split so the group took a well needed break after their New Jersey tour.

They all went their separate ways briefly to re-focus. Jon appeared in Young Guns II and sung the theme tune: Blaze of Glory. Richie released his own album: Stranger in the Town and David Bryan recorded a sound track for The Netherworld.

In 1992, the group returned with Keep The Faith. Dry County and I Believe were two of the greatest songs the group had released.

A greatest hits album was to follow: ?Crossroads? which included a few new songs, ?Always? being the biggest hit. Not long after Alec John Such left the group. Since then Hugh McDonald has taken his place.

These Days was a slower version of their normal material. The These Days tour sold out three days in a row at Wembley Stadium and was considered to be their greatest ever concert. In the same weekend, These Days hit the number one spot in the UK.

They all took a break again after the These Days tour. Tico used the time for painting, a big passion of his, while David composed musicals. Richie wrote and recorded his second album: Undisclosed Soul. Jon decided to use his time to break in Hollywood. He landed roles in movies like: Little City, The Leading Man, Homegrown and U-571. In between filming, Jon recorded his second solo album: Destination Anywhere.

After coming back together, they released the album Crush in 2000. The single It?s My Life led to the album being a huge success in the US and overseas. The album gained younger fans attention and the tour was extended to cope with the amount of fans. On the back of the Crush tour, One Wild Night was released, a collection of live performances.

Bon Jovi performed in The Concert for New York City after the September 11th terrorist attacks. Bounce was released in 2002 and created hits like Everyday and Misunderstood. On the Bounce tour they made history as the last group ever to perform at the Veterans Stadium in Philadelphia.

The group took a different approach for This Left Feels Right. They re-wrote and re-recorded 12 of their original songs, including, It?s My Life and Livin? on a Prayer.

In 2004 they released a box set containing 38 unreleased tracks, 12 rare tracks and a DVD. This was called: 100,000,000 Bon Jovi fans can?t be Wrong and commemorated their 20th anniversary.

In 2005, Bon Jovi sung Livin? on a Prayer, It?s My Life and Have A Nice Day in Live 8. They were celebrating in 2005 after they had received the Diamond Award at the World Music Awards for selling a staggering 100 million albums.

In 2005, Bon Jovi released Have A Nice Day, one which the fans had been waiting for. The album topped the charts and sold over 202,000 albums in their first week. This album created singles like ?Have A Nice Day?, ?Who Says You Can?t Go Home? and ?Welcome To Wherever You Are?.

Their 2005/2006 tour was shorter than usual and became subject to a few problems along the way. Originally they were to play the first concert at the new Wembley Stadium, having played the last concert at the old Wembley, but had to move it to Milton Keynes National Bowl, after the stadium was not built in time. While at the Milton Keynes concert, Jon joked he would be performing at Wembley again even it means he must build it himself!
