Debra was born in New Zealand but moved to England and spent her early years in Hull. Her first appearance on television was on Opportunity Knocks, where she won and appeared live at the London Palladium. In 1998 she appeared in Playing the Field, a story about women?s football.
Debra has played several comic roles, both on television and radio, and has also done some stand-up comedy. She also had a part in the Friday Night Project, by being an interviewer and going undercover.
She played the role of Shell Dockley in Bad Girls from 1999. She received two nominations for Best actor at the National Television Awards. She played the role for three years and returned for one last time in 2003.
