At 16 Heath Ledger left school to pursue his acting career and has his first film debut in 1997 Australian movie, Blackrock.
In 2005 Heath Ledger received Best Actor of 2005 from the New York and San Francisco Film Critics Circle for his performance in Brokeback Mountain. He was also nominated for a Golden Globe and an Academy Award for Best Actor.
Heath Ledger was widely considered to be one of Hollywood's greatest young actors. He has featured in several critically acclaimed movies like, The Patriot, A Knight's Tale, and Monster's Ball. He won a ShoWest Award for the Male Star of Tomorrow based on his performance in The Patriot.

Heath Ledger was engaged to Michelle Williams, who he met on set of Brokeback Mountain. They had a daughter, Matilda Rose, in October 2005. However it was confirmed in 2007 that they had indeed split up.
On Tuesday 22nd October Heath Ledger was found dead from a suspected drugs overdose. He was discovered face down on the bedroom floor by a housekeeper at 3.35pm. Police revealed that prescription drugs were found scattered around his body and the bed, though no cause of death can be determined until a full medical examination has been carried out.
