Michael Owen's interest in football started from a young age as his father was a footballer and had played for Everton. Michael was signed by Liverpool at the age of 14 and had to attend the FA's School of Excellence.

in 2001 Liverpool had their most successful season in ages and won the League Cup, FA Cup and UEFA Cup with Michael Owen scoring two goals against Arsenal in the last couple of minutes in the FA Cup final.

Michael Owen made his debut for Liverpool in 1997 at the age of 18 and even scored a goal. In the season of 1997-1998 Michael became joint top goal scorer in the Premier League and was voted PFA Young Player of the Year.

Michael was signed by Real Madrid in 2004, and around a year later signed to Newcastle in 2005 to a four-year contract.

Michael Owen is the first English player in 20 years and the only Liverpool player to ever be awarded the European Footballer of the Year award. Michael is also the youngest ever recipient of the BBC Sports Personality of the Year title.

Michael Owen is fourth in the list of all-time top scorers for the England team behind Bobby Charlton, Gary Linekar and Jimmy Greaves.

As well as football Michael has appeared in several adverts for the washing powder Persil.


Michael Owen is married to Louise Bonsall who he met at primary school, they have three children together, Gemma, James and Emily.
