Naomi was spotted by a Beth Boldt, former head of Synchro models agency. Naomi then appeared on the cover of Elle magazine in 1986. In 1988 Naomi was also on the cover of French Vogue.
TIME, French Vogue and British Vogue are all magazines in which Naomi was the first black model to appear on the front cover. She also posed nude for Playboy magazine. Altogether she has appeared on over 40 magazine covers.
Since Naomi was first spotted she has had a successful career starting her career as a catwalk model. In the early 1980's Naomi was part of the two major super modelling powerhouses, the Big Six and the Trinity. Naomi has walked the catwalk for many fashion designers, like Gianni Versace, Valentino and also Vivienne Westwood in which she tumbled over on the catwalk in 1994 for Vivienne?s Anglo mania fashion show.

Naomi is well known for her acts of physical violence and verbal abuse, she has been accused by her employers and associates of this many times. In 2006 Naomi pleaded guilty to a charge of reckless assault against Ana Scolavino. Naomi was forced to take anger management classes and spent five days doing community service.
